Concourse Remodeling Begins FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Jan. 26, 2009 - Travelers will begin seeing work in the C Concourse of The Eastern Iowa Airport as a $1.3 million remodeling project begins today. Renovations to the upper portion of the airport terminal will include carpeting, wall coverings, airline gate counters, improvements to the bathrooms and new seating. The design follows guidelines adopted by the Cedar Rapids Airport Commission in 2007, incorporating colors and textures related to land and flight. The C Concourse was added onto the terminal in the mid 1990s. Changes or improvements to that area have been minimal and seating has not been replaced since 1997. “The Eastern Iowa Airport is, for many, the gateway to the Eastern Iowa region,” said Dan Mann, airport director. “It is the first place many visitors see when they arrive, and the last place they see as they depart, forming an important part of their impression of the area.” Work is expected to take four months and will be done in phases to provide the most customer convenience. The work is not expected to impact any airline or concession operations and ample seating will be available throughout the project. At least one set of upstairs restrooms will be open during the remodeling. “We know anytime there is construction, there can be inconvenience to customers,” Mann said. “But staff and the contractors have been working for several weeks to devise a plan that will get the work done in an efficient manner with the least amount of impact to travelers.”
